Butterflies are beautiful.
They fly in the day.
Moths fly at night, which may be why some are gray!
Earthworms are good workers.
They help make the soil.
If you turn a pot over- you can see where they toil.
I love the June bugs.
They come every summer.
If I didn’t get June bugs, it would be a big bummer!
Bumblebees carry pollen.
They fly, and are necessary.
They help grow the flowers- and keep the garden merry.
Sow bugs, and caterpillars, bees, ants, and wasps,
They all are important.
Without them we’d be lost!
Not all bugs are helpful.
Some eat our crops.
Some eat our sweaters, give us stings and smelly drops!
I like mantises, ladybugs and more.
I like wood nymphs and dragonflies, for sure.
Then there are others, that I consider pests.
These are the termites, the roaches, and the rest-
Fleas, and mosquitoes are bugs I detest!
But for the most part,
We need them in some way.
Learn which bugs to touch,
And from which to stay away!

Playeros, bolseros, mosqueros y más
¡vengan a mi casa a veces, quizás!
Palomas, tórtolas, cucos, y loro
son parte del grupo que canta en coro.
Halcones, gorriones, vadeadores enormes,
viven juntos con los pequeños pinzones.
¡Lo que es triste, pero es la verdad,
los pinzones no tienen longevidad!
Gaviotas elegantes, gaviotas encapuchadas
viven con golondrinas de alas aserradas.
Todos son diferentes y todos vuelan.
¡Venga al mar para oír como suenen!
Me encantan los aves.
Me gustan los pájaros.
Mira hacia arriba si te gusta verlos.

I Like Birds!
By Connie Goldin © 2012, 2009, Mom to Madre
I like birds.
They fly in the sky.
They have feathers and beaks.
They have bright seeing eyes.
I like warblers and crows.
I like hawks and sparrows.
I like hummingbirds and jays.
I love orioles.
Some birds eat seeds.
Some hide in the weeds.
Some like fat worms.
They all need to feed.
Will you help me feed the birds?
We pour the seed out.
There are seeds small and stout.
Each seed fits a beak.
Birds will eat, there’s no doubt.
We’ll hang up the feeder.
We’ll soon have an eater.
Then there will be many, I promise, dear reader.
Which birds will we see?
We’ll see towhees and finches.
We’ll see birds measuring inches.
Some birds eat upside down.
They are called Goldfinches.
Then big birds will arrive.
They swoop, fall and dive.
I’m not crazy about pigeons.
But, they all want to thrive.
I love birds that sing.
I love a beautiful wing.
I think I like them all.
A bird is a special thing!

La canción de mi trencito
de vagones de colores
con sus ruedas de madera
sobre el piso de adoquines
Puedo armarte y desarmarte,
Verde atrás, rojo adelante
O quizás azul al frente…
¡Que más da! Todos son uno,
Mi trencito Chucu-Chucu.
Tu carga es más valiosa
que el tesoro de un corsario
mis canicas de cristal,
mi trompo de mil batallas,
mi ringlete, el osito “Barrilete”,
mis memorias, mis amores,
mis cuitas y sinsabores,
mis fantasmas y mis sueños,
¡Mi pelota de colores!

¿Qué tejes amiguita?
¿Tejes tu telita?
¿Tu tela-rañita?
Es tu casita,
¿Qué guardas en ella?
Mosquitos para tu comidita.
Me gusta tu casita,
es suave como la seda,
transparente como el cristal y
mágica como la red
del trapecista al saltar.

Sol Solecito
Sales despacio, despacito…
No hay mucha prisa,
¡Tienes todo el día para brillar!
Conoces tu camino…
Sales cada día con tu mochilita
llena de luz para el mundo alumbrar
Pareces una antorcha en la mañana
y una gran naranja al atardecer
Tus caricias me ayudan a crecer,
tus rayos iluminan mi caminar.
Te escondes despacio, despacito…
Otro medio mundo
¡espera verte también brillar!
